Neue National Galerie, Berlin

Water drips into a bowl that is filled to the brim at a rate of one drop a second. The construction hovers in suspenseful equilibrium like a balancing act. Each drop causes the water to quiver, threatening to break the surface tension. Floods, melting glaciers, fires, and war – it is 89 seconds to midnight on the ‘doomsday’ clock. The world has never been closer to global catastrophe. The installation conjures the current ubiquitous feeling of suspense, the sense that each moment could see the last drop.
